Stone Completes Staff, Names Mike Geary Assistant Coach

Saint Louis University head women's basketball coach Lisa Stone has completed her staff by hiring Mike Geary as an assistant coach. Geary arrives at Saint Louis following four seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Detroit Mercy.

Kelly Honored by ABCA

ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis senior outfielder Alex Kelly was named Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) third-team All-American and a first-team All-Midwest Region selection following a vote of college head coaches. lt;br />Kelly helped the Billikens to their second consecutive 41-win season, a school record for wins. He led the team in batting average (.326), slugging percentage (.487), home runs (8), RBIs (41) and runs (43). Kelly also earned first-team All-Atlantic 10 honors this season. lt;br />He finished his SLU career with a .334 batting average (10th all-time), 20 home runs (11th all-time) and 30 doubles (20th all-time). lt;br />In Kelly's two years of competition, the Billikens won two Atlantic 10 regular season titles, the 2013 Atlantic 10 Tournament title and competed in the 2013 NCAA Columbia Regional. lt;br />Kelly becomes the fifth All-American in Saint Louis history. Last season, Travis Parker earned third-team All-American and first-team All-Midwest Region accolades. Mike Barger (third team, 1993), John Marcum (1965) and John Jones (1959) are the other All-Americans for the Billikens.

ST. LOUIS - Freshman third baseman Braxton Martinez was named second-team Freshman All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association (NCBWA). He is the third Freshman All-American under head coach Darin Hendrickson, but the first to be recognized by the NCBWA.

Grant Nelson Drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks

ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis catcher Grant Nelson has been drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks with their 14th pick in the ninth round of the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft. He is the first Billiken drafted since Dave Sever was drafted by Toronto Blue Jays in 2009. He was the 270th overall selection. lt;br /> lt;br />Nelson had a terrific senior campaign with the Billikens, hitting .338 with a .465 slugging percentage and a .433 on-base percentage. He also added five home runs and 32 RBIs. In the Saint Louis record book he is 17th in career batting average (.326). Nelson was a third baseman in 2012, his first season with Saint Louis, but moved behind the plate as a senior. lt;br /> lt;br />The highest Billiken draft pick in the primary MLB draft is Ken Ossola, who was drafted in the eighth round of the 1969 draft (pick no. 172 overall) by the New York Mets.

Billikens Take on South Carolina on ESPN2

The Saint Louis Billikens will compete in the Columbia, S.C. Regional in the 2013 NCAA Tournament. It is the Billikens' third trip to the NCAA tournament in the past seven seasons and their sixth trip in school history. In 1965, SLU advanced to the College World Series in Omaha, Neb. lt;br />For the first time, ESPN will air every game of the 2013 NCAA Tournament on one of its outlets. Saint Louis' first game will be televised on ESPN2. It is believed to be the first time in school history that the baseball team has competed on national television.

Billikens Head to Columbia Regional

ST. LOUIS – The Saint Louis baseball team will play in the Columbia Regional in the 2013 NCAA Tournament, as announced today on ESPNU. The Billikens will be the no. 4 seed in the regional, playing host school South Carolina in the opening round. Three sedd Liberty and two seed Clemson will play in the other half of the Regional. The Bills reached the NCAA Tournament by winning the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship and earning the conference's automatic bid. lt;br />The Billikens (41-19) are coming off an A-10 tournament in which the team won five consecutive games (four in a 27 hour span) to claim the program's third title. Saint Louis had four players earn All-Conference accolades: freshman Michael Bozarth, senior Alex Kelly, senior Marco Mejia and sophomore Mike Vigliarolo. Kelly was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player after breaking tournament records in hits (15) and RBIs (13). SLU also shattered the tournament records for team hits. lt;br />First pitch against the Gamecocks will be on Friday, May 31 at 6:00 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.com.
