RadDad1999
Maybe this has been discussed. If so, I apologize. Saint Louis may seek UWGB athletics director Bothof By Rob Demovsky [email protected] Ken Bothof, the athletics director at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay for the past 2½ years, could become a candidate for the same job at Saint Louis University. Before he was hired to lead UWGB’s athletics department on Nov. 14, 2001, Bothof was associate AD for external operations at Saint Louis for six years. The top job in Saint Louis’ athletics department opened Wednesday, when the school’s longtime AD, Doug Woolard, left for the same position at the University of South Florida. As of Wednesday evening, Bothof had not been contacted by any representatives from Saint Louis. However, it was unlikely any potential candidates had been contacted because the school still was putting together its search committee. When reached on Wednesday evening, Bothof refused comment. Though several potential candidates almost will certainly be interviewed, Bothof would appear likely to be on the school’s list. All indications are he was well liked at Saint Louis. Former colleagues there gave him glowing recommendations when he was hired at UWGB. A source close to Saint Louis’ search confirmed no official candidates had been identified but acknowledged that Bothof would be a natural fit to return to the school. “Ken would be an obvious person to consider,†the source said. Bothof’s tenure at UWGB has been marked by major change in a men’s basketball program that had become dreadful before his arrival. He fired Mike Heideman as coach shortly after he arrived and hired Tod Kowalczyk, who in two years has begun to turn the program around. Kowalczyk’s team went 17-11 last season and finished third in the Horizon League. It was the first winning season for the Phoenix since the 1998-99 season. Bothof also has made strides in raising money for the athletics department and has been involved in a project to renovate the Phoenix Sports Center. Before working at Saint Louis, Bothof worked at San Jose State and Idaho State. Saint Louis is a member of Conference USA but will move to the Atlantic 10 Conference in 2005. BLIKNS
Got to give him credit for that "home" game for Southern Miss.
Quality Is Job 1
Southern Miss's faux home game in Green Bay was against Marquette and was arranged by an independent promoter based on the East Coast (if I'm not mistaken), and Bothoff has been at Wisconsin-Green Bay. So how does he get credit?
BLIKNS
I thought the game was played on the UW-GB home floor.
RadDad1999
it was played at the Resch Center, GB's home floor. IIRC, So. Miss won that game handily.
Billiken Law
The Resch Center is UWGB's "home floor" but like the Savvis Center, it is not an on-campus arena but rather a public facility tht UWGB just happens to play at. It was a taxpayer funded municipal facility.
